The CARES Center is a low cost spay-neuter clinic located at 735 E. CR 470 in Lake Panasoffkee in Sumter County. Established in 2000, the not-for-profit organization (501 c-3) is dedicated to helping reverse the cycle of uncontrolled breeding that results in the sad over-population of unwanted and abandoned cats and dogs; and to increasing awareness of being a responsible animal owner. People can get their pets altered for minimal fees, with low cost vaccinations and pet health services at affordable rates. CARES has spayed and neutered over 24,500 animals during its years of service to the community.
The cost of a dog neuter (up to 10 lbs.) is $45; a dog spay is $50 and goes up moderately according to weight. Cat neuters are $30; cat spays are $35. Surgery days are every Tuesday and Thursday, by appointment only.
Come into our CARES walk-in shot clinic any Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., no appointment necessary and no office visit charge. We provide vaccinations, heartworm and leukemia/aids testing, worming, ear cleaning, nail clipping, clean anal glands, etc., and offer a selection of flea and heartworm preventatives as well as other beneficial animal health products.
