5K Run/Walk for New Vision

On October 29th, come out to Lake-Sumter Community College and run 3.1 miles - walk half a mile - experience that same walk blindfolded. Experience what's available in the community for adults and babies with vision loss. New Vision for Independence is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving the visually impaired and blind of Lake and Sumter Counties. Registration: LSCC, 9501US Hwy 441, Leesburg Magnolia Room.

The agency's 5th annual fundraising event will have four different segments:

5k (3.1 mile) run/walk around Silver Lake. Registration starts at 7 a.m., walk starts at 8:00 a.m. Cost: $25 - sign-up by October 13 to be guaranteed a shirt!

1/2 Mile Walk around the track. Registration starts at 7 a.m., walk starts at 9:30 a.m. Cost: $25 - sign-up by October 13 to be guaranteed a shirt!

Sensory Walk - 1/2 mile walk around the LSCC track blindfolded (with a sighted guide escort). Registration starts at 7 a.m., walk starts at 10 a.m. Cost: Donations much appreciated - Must complete the walk to get a shirt.

Low Vision Expo - Health fair with resources for those with vision loss, as well as activities and simulations of vision loss. Presenting vendors include Enhanced Vision, Magnifying Aids, and Low Vision Aids. Other vendors include Advanced Diabetes Solutions, Lake Sumter Lions Club, Dept. of Veterans Affairs' VIST program, Cornerstone Hospice, Golden Triangle Christian Outreach for the Blind, Lake County Public Transportation, Lake County Sheriff's Office, and simulations of different services offered by New Vision.
