Young Vocalist Performs

During this past weekend, Young Performing Artists (YPAs), Inc. vocalist member, TiChina Simmons, 16, performed at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Committee of Lake & Sumter Counties' Annual Celebratory Events. The annual celebratory events are in collaboration with Lake-Sumter Community College (LSCC) and LSCC Equity & Diversity Initiative.

TiChina performed at three of the events; performing 'Wind Beneath My Wings' at the Award Ceremony and the 'National Anthem' at the Student Literary Contest Ceremony both on Friday, January 13, 2012 at the Everett Kelley Convocation Center, LSCC Leesburg Campus. She performed 'Lift Every Voice & Sing' at the MLK Parade, Downtown Leesburg, Saturday, January 14, 2012.

Also, TiChina presented a one women play entitled 'My Daddy, Dr. King' as a student contestant in the theatrical category during the Student Literary Contest and won in that category. The play 'My Daddy, Dr. King' is a conception of a story, told as Dr. King's youngest daughter, Bernice Albertine King, as a 16 year old coming to grips with the death of her daddy, who everyone else knew as a Pastor, Civil Rights Leader, Nobel Peace Prize Recipient, etc. The play is an original and supplied by Young Performing Artists (YPAs), Inc.

TiChina is student at Sumter Christian School, she lives in Wildwood with her mother and brother and was ecstatic because her maternal and fraternal grandparents attended the events.

Join us at the 3rd Annual Young Performing Artists (YPAs), Inc. 'Golf For Art' Tournament, Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Continental Country Club-Wildwood. Golfer registration: $50 per golfer and Hole Sponsorships: $50 per hole. Teams of four or we can pair you, shot gun start at 8:30am, prizes, $5000 Hole-In-One contest, breakfast and lunch included. Former NFL player, Darrell Jackson, is confirmed to play.
