On November 12, 2011 The Granville Beville 2234, Bushnell Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy met at the home of Belle Phillips in Wildwood. Bettye Jemison read from a brochure which tells of how the UDC is the oldest patriotic lineage society in the United States. Its members work tirelessly to honor their Confederate ancestors through activities that fulfill the historical, educational, benevolent, memorial and patriotic objectives of the Organization. Motto: "Think, Love, Pray, Dare, Live"; Registrar, Mary Harrison gave a report on the update of new members, Yvonne Fishel's reinstatement and transfer and transfer for Tammy Moore, with others members joining. Peggy Sloan, Recorder of Military Service Awards, gave a report on the General Convention of the UDC in Ft. Worth, Texas. A wonderful time was had by all who attended. A donation was taken up for the Orlando Veterans Affairs Voluntary program for gift cards for veterans in need. Program was given by Belle Phillips on Jefferson Davis, Husband and Father, telling of his trials of being the President of the Confederacy and having a life with his family. Chapter will continue to collect box tops, pop tops and pennies and nickels and dimes for the Children of the Confederacy. Can goods were collected for the Hope Ministries Program of the First Baptist Church. Chapter will be collecting towels, washcloths, hand towels for the Tampa Crossroads for the Homeless Women Veterans. Plantation Christmas will be held at the Gamble Plantation in Ellenton on December 11, 2011; 11:00 am - 4:00 pm.
