June 4th – 8th, 2018 – Step back in time to the 1800s.
Children will get hands-on experience in historical living arts from soap making to cow milking. History will come alive as we educate campers in fun and memorable ways about Florida life in the 1800s.
Meet and interact with living history characters of the 1800s. We will explore the history of Dade Battlefield Historic State Park in an interactive and fun way.
Make pioneer and indian toys, games and music. Learn old-time dances and play with musical instruments of the 1800s.
Learn cow milking, animal care, and how to make butter and ice cream. We’ll cook on an open hearth and explore wild foods and their preparation.
Learn to make soap, candles, brooms and how to make and use native dyes. You can try your skill at fiber arts, then we’ll end the day with a one-room schoolhouse session and story-telling.
Learn soap carving, how to use a two-man saw, rope making and how to make palmetto scrub brushes.
