Calling all nerds, cosplayers and steampunk fans! The annual Geek Fest is back! Hosted by the Astor County Library, this free event takes place on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 9am – 2pm.
Now in its third year, Geek Fest draws hundreds of people from across Florida. There will a variety of exhibitors, authors and activities for the whole family, including a cosplay competition with prizes for the best-dressed child, teen and adult!
One of the biggest Geek Fest supporters have been the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) Barony of Darkwater. The SCA wows audiences with demonstrations on renaissance crafts and weaponry. Watch live combat shows with trained fighters!
The Renaissance Robotics team, another long-time supporter, will also have tons of activities. Not to miss are their Joust Bots, special robots made just for this event.
Also be sure to check out the interactive STEM activities by the American Society of Engineers, and the Splendid Teapot Race, where teapots retrofitted with wheels and other gadgetry battle it out! Gaslight Batman will also be making a special appearance at the festival.
“Jump into another time and place where you can rub elbows with medieval royalty, steampunk heroes, and robotic wonders,” says Jonathan Dolce, branch supervisor of the Astor County Library. “It’s a treat for the entire family, and best of all, it’s FREE! Come in costume or just to take a gander.”
