African American History Month Programs

Young Performing Artists (YPAs), Inc. presents African American History programs on Friday, February 16, 2018, 2pm at Royal Community Center and on Thursday, February 22, 2018, 6pm at Ebenezer AME Church, Royal.
On Friday, February 16, 2018, Grace Nelson, keynote speaker, will present “Black Women Astronauts” at the Royal Community Center, 9569 County Road 235, Wildwood (Royal), FL 34785. Free. Space is limited; reservations are required.
On Thursday, February 22, 2018, Legacy Writer & Author Mrs. Ersula Odom’s in-character performance brings Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune to life before your eyes in the Florida Humanities Council’s African American Series entitled “Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Comes To Life.” This event will be held at Ebenezer AME Church, Royal, 390 East Highway 462, Wildwood (Royal), FL where Rev. Melvin W. Lyals is the Pastor.
The programs are presented by Young Performing Artists (YPAs), Inc. and is sponsored by the Florida Humanities Council with funds from the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.
Also, on Saturday, February 24, 2018, Young Performing Artists (YPAs), Inc. is hosting Sumter County’s 2nd Annual Soul Food Fest, Saturday, 5- 9PM at Wildwood Country Resort, 5604 Heritage Boulevard (SR 44), Wildwood, FL 34785. You’re invited to enjoy a live performance by Ictus Jazz & Funk Band, Dee’s Delicious Catering, water donated by Mike Scott Plumbing, dancing to soul sounds by LP Sound Machine, Spoken Word artist LaToya ‘Kindling’ Smith, Q Stop/ Jones Photography and Phenomenal Sisters will assist you. A soulful menu of: BBQ, Baked or Fried chicken, macaroni & cheese, perlo rice, collard greens, green beans, corn bread, dinner rolls, sweet potato bread, red velvet cake, peach cobbler, sweet & unsweetened tea. Guest may BYOB; cups, water and ice provided. Dinner hours: 6-8pm. Donations: $30 per person. Tickets required. Collaborators: African American Club of The Villages and African American Club of The Plantation.
