Montverde – 5K or 10K Walk
The Mid-Florida Milers Walking Club promotes recreational walking for fun, fitness and friendship. They will host a walk in Montverde Saturday, September 16, 2017. The Start/Finish will be at the Kirk Community Center, 17436 Division St., Montverde, FL 34756. Register and start the walk any time between 8:30-10:00am. Two distances are available: 10K (6 miles) or 5K (3 miles).
Enjoy this hilltop town overlooking Lake Apopka. The walk will go through residential areas and pass the historic Montverde Academy. The walk accommodates strollers, but wheelchair participants will experience some difficulty. Pets are not recommended. Please carry water. The walk is free for non-credit walkers; those maintaining record books pay $3.
After the walk, participants are welcome to stay for a pork BBQ picnic-lunch. A $5 donation will be collected at the lunch for the food. Side dishes are welcome! Please RSVP lunch by calling Mike Lanpher at 407-695-9181. No pre-registration is required for the walk itself.
The walk is sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association and is open to the public. Walkers are given a guide with detailed written instructions and are welcome to walk with a group, a companion, or by themselves.

The Mid-Florida Milers have been members of the American Volkssport Association for 27 years. “Volkssport” means “people-sports.” The walks are non-competitive and follow pre-determined routes, making them an excellent activity for the whole family. The events encourage physical activity and appreciation of the outdoors. They are designed for people of all ages and levels of physical fitness.
